Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton Extends Partnership with Athabasca Oil Corporation
CALGARY—Canada’s bobsleigh and skeleton athletes received a boost of energy as they hit the start block this week for the highly-anticipated 2025-26 season, thanks to Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton and Athabasca Oil Corporation in collaboration with Canada Action’s I Love Canadian Energy campaign extending their partnership.
The Canadian energy company – focused on sustainable resource development – played a critical role in fueling medal-winning and personal best performances for Canadian bobsleigh and skeleton athletes since originally launching the partnership in the winter of 2024. Canada Action’s I Love Canadian Energy will continue to slide with Team Canada on their sleds through the 2026 season.
“The financial climate for many national sport organizations remains difficult, and it is important to realize our team needs are not frivolous. It is our goal to continue to deliver the resources our athletes need, and deserve, to be the best in the world while representing all Canadians,” said Kien Tran, chief executive officer, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton. “We have been honoured to have the support of the oil and gas industry, particularly Athabasca Oil Corporation, who shares our goals of making a positive impact on the communities we represent.”
The nation’s best sliding sport athletes will continue to showcase Canada Action’s I love Canadian Energy campaign decals while blasting down tracks around the world, exemplifying their shared passion with Athabasca Oil Corporation for the pursuit of excellence on and off the track.
“Athabasca Oil is proud to continue our partnership with Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton to support the journeys of Canada’s elite athletes as they compete on the global stage,” said Robert Broen, chief executive officer, Athabasca Oil Corporation. “This unique partnership aligns with our corporate values and commitment to give back to local communities. As a Canadian company, we believe the responsible energy we produce here in Alberta makes people's lives better and hope this investment will help fuel Canada’s fastest athletes on ice in their drive to the podium.”
Athabasca Oil’s investment in Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton is done so as part of Canada Action’s I Love Canadian Energy. Founded in 2010, Canada Action promotes non-partisan, and fact-based information about Canada’s natural resource industries and supports the millions of workers who rely on these sectors to provide for their families.
“Canada Action has grown into a nationwide movement that’s become a leading voice whose efforts continue to be guided by our founding mission to provide positive, fact-based and non-partisan information for a balanced conversation about mining, oil, natural gas, forestry, renewables and agriculture,” said Cody Battershill, chief executive officer, Canada Action. “Sport is a powerful platform that can create conversation and unite Canadians from coast-to-coast. Similarly, Canada Action is also focused on encouraging Canadians to work together to support our vital natural resource sectors and the communities and families they support.”
Athabasca Oil is the second corporation in Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton’s pool of partners to extend its support for the nation’s sliding sport athlete this year.
Bobsleigh CANADA Skeleton is a non-profit organization and the national governing body for the sports of bobsleigh and skeleton in Canada.
